That's a total of 954 rounds. I lost 2 cases. One a R-P 357 Mag. that split the side for 1/4 of it's length. A Win. 44 Special case ruptured when fired in my Blackhawk 45 Colt. This was done by yours
truly.
I fired lots of other people's ammo in various guns, mostly handloads with no problems. I think this says something about the crew at their loading benches.
Range safety was top notch at the rifle benches. Thanks to Joe's Father. The corner the sixgunners used most was
controlled by us and no problems arose. I personally saw no firearm handled in an unsafe manner. This is
something of utmost importance during events such as this.
Fellow sixgunner cas brought the speed machine and I finally tested some of my loads. Thanks
cas.
45 colt, 4 5/8', 260 gr. Keith, 18.5 grs. 2400, 1050 fps.
44 mag, 4', 250 gr. Keith, 20 grs. 2400, 1201 fps.
44 Spec, 6 1/2", 250 gr. Keith, 15 grs. 2400, 1019 fps.
357 Mag. 6 1/2", 158 gr. W/W-HP, 14 grs. 2400, 1160 fps
Fed. 36 gr HP 22LR, 6", 1116 fps.
These are 5 shot averages and all centerfires used standard primers.
To those who missed the Noreaster, you missed a good time and good shooting. The locals that hang with Joe are hunters and cowboys. All in all a great bunch of guys.
It's possible that during this 2 day period I fired the most rounds of big bore ammo ever. I'm sure glad I took my shooting gloves.
I'm about to get rested from the trip and plan to do some shooting today for the first time since the event. I think Jamie, who has a body no one would trade with, recovered quicker than me. The trip was worth it. The Wicen Farm is a good place.
Nor' Easter Notes
Note 1: I was impressed by Doc's one hand shooting.
Note 2: cas is a good shot.
Note 3: Joe Wicen has a beautiful 45-70 Sharps and it shoots very well.
Note 4: Dale's daughter with a little practice could have won the trophy.
Note 5: Deaf Smith is the owner of a very, VERY smooth Officers Match Model Colt in 38 Special.
Note 6: cas can also shoot with one hand.
Note 7: Joe does a mean grip frame for the Ruger Single Action.
Note 8: I shot lots of sixguns that need trigger jobs.
Note 9: The recoil of a 5 pound 45-70 wasn't what I expected.
Note 10: "Doc" O'Meara can get test guns and you can shoot them if you're around.
Note 11: cas needs a new pair boots.
Note 12: You can hit a 2" circle every shot with Joe's Browning 22 auto. Off hand of course.
Note 13: Don't eat too much chili.
Note 14: You can't get all of Deaf Smith's guns in one vehicle.
Note 15: A 400 gr. bullet from a revolver is a handful, thanks cas.
Note 16: Deaf Smith has a PPC gun built on a Colt frame.
Note 17: Fired a Colt New Frontier for the first time. Doc has lots of guns.
Note 18: Atten. Sniper Teams, don't bet anything you want to keep when shooting against Joe's Father.
Note 19: If you think Sixgunner events aren't worth the trip, you're wrong.
Note 20: The tang peep is accurate and easy to use on Joe's Sharps.
Note 21: Deaf Smith needs more 45 Auto Rim Brass.
Note 22: Doc's Cimarron lever gun is fun to shoot and has the looks.
Note 23: One apple pie isn't enough for a group of sixgunners.
Note 24: My 4" M-29 was the least shot by others.
Note 25: Everybody loves a good 44 Special and a slick K-22.
Note 26: Why didn't I shoot the Ruger Redhawk?
